'Seagulls over the Waves' was created in c. 1915 by Ohara Koson (小原 古邨), the famous Japanese painter and woodblock print designer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, part of the shin-hanga (""new prints"") movement. In this painting, Ohara captured a scene of seagulls soaring over bouncing waves at a rocky ocean shore. This is a fine example of Ohara Koson’s mastery in kachō-e (bird-and-flower) designs in Shin-hanga style of Japan.
